Director of Innovation, Growth & Investment - PERMANENT

My client, based in London, is presently seeking an experienced senior professional to assume to role of Director of Innovation, Investment and Growth.

The successful applicant for this position within one of the most prestigious organisations in the UK, will be managing a team of five as well as a significant research budget. The Director will lead the organisation's research work in two areas crucial to the future of the UK economy:
1.  How the UK's financial system needs to change to support innovation and growth, in particular the role of early stage finance and venture capital;
2.  How innovation can support the future growth of the UK economy, including both work on future growth sectors and the wider conditions for innovation.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the production of an ambitious programme of research and policy work involving a mixture of internal work and commissioned research. They will represent my client to decision-makers and in high-profile public forums, and manage the internal Senior Economist, Head of Investment Research, two Lead Policy Advisors and a research analyst.

Each applicant should ideally have experience of managing a team to tackle complex problems, an insight into and passion for what drives economic growth and innovation, and the ability to communicate their ideas passionately and compellingly.

You should possess the following experience/attributes for this high profile position:
1.  Successful track record in a managerial capacity in government, a think tank, consultancy or similar body seeking to influence government policy, public administration or business growth;
2.  Experience of developing and leading a substantial programme of work, providing both thought leadership and project planning;
3.  Experience of managing a significant team to deliver complex outputs to demanding timescales, preferably in a policy or research context;
4.  Experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as being able to communicate that effectively to non-specialist audiences and to manage the work of economists;
5.  Understanding of the commercial and financial concerns of the VC industry and of innovative parts of the private sector, and able to scope and manage work in these areas;
6.  A keen interest in economics, finance, entrepreneurship or innovation policy, with some expertise in at least one area;
7.  Experience of building and developing strong and pervasive networks in business or policy fields, and using these to obtain buy-in for complex or controversial proposals;
8.  Ability to draft compelling and clear documents on complex subjects.
