Windows Systems Administrators x 2 - Data Centre Migration - Global Investment Bank - London - CONTRACT

WINDOWS SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATORS x 2 - DATA CENTRE MIGRATION - GLOBAL INVESTMENT BANK - LONDON - CONTRACT - Market Rates
PTS Resourcings' client, a leading Global Investment Bank, require two experienced Windows Systems Administrators for their large scale Data Centre migrations. If you have experience of such within the Investment Banking arena, this could well be your next role.
The key requirements are as follows, and you will be, on average required to work to weekends out of every month: 
  •                Windows Administrator/Analyst on large scale Data Centre Project
  •                SAN attached environments
  •                MCSE [optional]
  •                Windows 2000 Server administration skills including configuration
  •                Windows 2003 Server administration skills including configuration
  •                Server build knowledge
  •                HP/Compaq hard ware experience including, Dl380, Dl360, Dl580, Dl385, Dl585, Blade chassis, BL465
  •                Backup knowledge
  •                Restore recovery procedures
  •                Network knowledge
  •                Microsoft trouble shooting skills
  •                Active Directory awareness
  •                Anti virus skills
  •                BCP awareness
  •                Server Moves/Migrations
  •                Virtualisation
  •                DHCP
  •                IP Address changes
The migrations will involve:


  • Hardware checks and shutdown
  • backup checks to ensure success/restarts
  • Environment/site knowledge
  • Working with Network Team for IP changes
  • Working with Vendor and engineers to troubleshoot issues
  • Resolve any OS issues/working with App Dev to help resolve issues
And the key skills required are:


  • Document and define the Windows approach and requirements for Refresh, Swing and Lift and Shift migrations
  • Mapping on best practice as viewed and documented looking at Transformation Design
  • Look at what core infrastructure will be required ie Monitoring, SMS, Domain Controllers etc
  • Working closely with the Application Analyst to look at what Services will need to be migrated rather than components
  • Identify High Risk and Low Risk kit and plan accordingly
  • Attend migration workshops to gather information required for migrations
  • Contingency Analysis and planning
  • Produce transition plans and storey boards where required
  • Investigate application dependencies and identify migration priorities
  • Work with other migration resources to provide end to end migration
  • Working with other teams (App Dev, BAU etc) to plan change dates and times
  • Refresh kit liaise with Application owners for any upgrades and scheduling, managing the buying of kit, managing and delegation of building kit and App  Dev testing and handover and sign off
  • Swing kit identify where swing kit is required and as above manage to App Dev sign off
  • Lift and Shift Hands on and Manage Windows team to move kit successfully
